Gyokuro is the highest grade green leaf tea. Before harvest the plants are put in the shade for 3 to 4 weeks, which makes the leaves turn vibrant green. The greenness of the tea you see in the picture is 100% natural from the leaf.
Good Gyokuro is hard to find outside of Japan, over 95% of green tea grown in Japan is consumed there (source). High-quality green teas like Gyokuro are really an enthusiast's beverage.
Gyokuro highlights:
- Decadent Umami flavour and a almost fake-looking green color
- Cognitive boost (caffeine + l-theanine content)
- From the same tea shop in Kyoto as the Matcha
Matcha hipster notes:
- I like to use 5 grams in a cup of 100-200ml (depending on desired strength)
- This is hands down the best Gyokuro I've ever had
- The reason this Gyokuro can be under the price you'd expect for a Gyokuro is because the Japanese Yen dropped in value just as I ordered the tea, I cannot guarantee this price until next order
